Beauty Therapy… An Ongoing Adventure

November 12, 2012

I think the more ‘beauty therapy’ we can do at home… the better… I know aestheticians might not agree with me altogether because there are only some special, deeper treatments that they can perform… Ideally we make time for a regular combination of the two, but sometimes this doesn’t or can’t happen…  Home skin care makes a huge difference… it saves time and expense… and besides it can become a routine, a ritual… and a pleasure… Time for ourselves is so important… it is not selfish… ‘me time’ means so much more quality time for those we love. A recharge of our batteries has an incredible effect on our work and our play… our energy is magnified and directed so much more positively and effectively.

The weekends are when I like to take ‘me’ time… Saturday or Sunday afternoon… My ritual involves the bath… somehow for me beauty and bathing go hand in hand… and also in winter… I am much more inclined for beauty during the colder months… there is something cosy and comforting about a bath and our potions… I fill the bath, add in the scented bath oil… plus a few extra drops of olive oil… that makes all the difference and leaves the skin feeling gloriously silky… I prefer a scented bath but often I find the products are harsh and drying on the skin… this little addition makes the water soft and the body even softer. I light a scented candle… Odalisque at the moment… pop my favourite novel by the bath in readiness for my long soak… and prep my face.

I cleanse a great deal… and I use a Clarisonic brush… these are everyday routines for me and I can’t go without them… ever… however tired I might be. I rotate treatments and creams, as the skin can become accustomed to the same products if we use them over a long period of time. I mentioned recently that I have started trying SkinCeuticals… the B5 mask in particular… this is wonderful and makes the skin feel refreshed and replenished… this one is all about hydration… If I want an instant pick me up for the evening… nothing is better than the SKII masks… they are nothing short of a miracle… After a thorough cleansing I apply one or other of the masks and ‘soak’ up the ambience.. That relaxing 20 minutes makes all the difference… my beauty version of the ‘power nap’.

Day to day routine needs to be quicker… As much as I would like to say that there is time for a multitude of complicated facial preparations… there just isn’t. Cleanse, splash, serum, moisturise, make-up and go… that’s my mantra… My second purchase from SkinCeuticals is the C E Ferulic serum.. I am often sceptical of anti-ageing miracles… but this is excellent and I can really see a difference in my skin… It is protective as well as an aid to better looking, smoother skin. Only a few drops are necessary… fast, easy and with benefits… Like all products… it is easy to overuse… a small amount is really all that is needed. This serum, because of it’s composition, should be clear in colour when purchased… and kept in the fridge after opening… I am enjoying these SkinCeuticals products and the occasional professional treatment… I know many of you already use the range and have recommended it to me… you are absolutely right… for me, it is fantastic… xv

Hi Vicki – love the photos accompanying this interesting post on your skin care regimen. As aways you and Carla make a great team!
Traveling is so hard on one’s skin and, having just returned from another fab trip, Venice to Istanbul, I had issues keeping my aging countenance in good shape! Problem in European hotels is always the bathroom lighting, often dismal, and of course different water. Have to say though that on board the beautiful ship the magnifying mirror in the perfect brightly lit marble bathroom helped, and they provided excellent Aveda products in huge sizes, no squeezing those mini bottles trying to get the products out!
Off again soon – home for Christmas where the lovely flat we stay in has good lighting thankfully and a tub where I may just soak away the dust and dirt of another long flight – and add the olive oil you suggest.
As always, thanks for your tips……….you share so much helpful info.
    Hugs – Mary

  • Il est bon de prendre soin de soi… j’aime beaucoup les photos qui accompagnent vos bons mots.

    Good morning dear Vicki!

Well, you pretty much summed up my idea of a weekend, in these photos alone. The power naps and the beauty products are just what everyone needs to prepare for the busy work week. But oh the ENVIRONMENT in which you surround yourself is to me essential for the entire week! Whites, grays and natural tones are just for me!

Have a super day my dear. Anita

    Oh dear. I know I should but I confess that I don’t.
A wash and a slathering of moisturiser is my lot.
But perhaps I will return to my old habit of a Sunday home-spa, as you say, it is important to have time for ourselves.

Loved the pictures, are they of your home?
They, alone, would prompt me into a better beauty regime

I used skinceuticals for years. Don’t miss the phlorectin serum – fantastic. I mix my routine up, but I always use the overnight cream on top of whatever serum I’m currently using.

  • How very beautiful.

Lovely photos, Vicki. I’m a die-hard Clarisonic fan, and have started again with the Eve Lom Rescue mask every Sunday evening. It’s a lovely bit of pampering, and really calms and smooths my skin.

Vicki I do love home spa treatments. The feeling of a scented oil bath, a favorite candle glowing, a facial mask to rejuvenate. I often use a favorite bath oil for shaving.

.. CE Ferulic is fabulous … in addition it helps with emerging brown spots … love your beauty posts, always … I have been wanting to try the SKII mask … soon I hope …

p.s. yes scented products do make the skin dry …. I’m a Kiehl’s girl, Intensive Cream in winter and Creme de Corps for summer … no scent. XO XO XO .. love these posts, always new things to try.

  • I have to give MOTH advance notice if I slap a mask on at home over the weekend. He reckons the shock of seeing me all alabaster white is enough to give him another bout of Atrial Fibrillation!

Lovely to see Mr. FF has finally caught up with the ironing Vicki. Your linen looks beautiful all stashed away so neatly, he’s done a stellar job. I can almost see him now, collapsed in a chair calling for a large recuperative Scotch before he attacks the next basket.

Gorgeous pics, so very soothing. I have my white cotton spa style robe with matching slippers that I pop on after I go through my weekly regime. I love to gently exfoliate head to toe, rinse off in the shower then moisturise and soak with scented candles burning.Sometimes I’ll have a deep conditioning treatment in my hair and a mask of some kind on my face. I may not look any different after all this but I sure feel good.

  • Pauline from Phillip Island says:

What beautiful, beautiful photos. They are an inspiration in themselves to create a serene and nurturing sanctuary. I am lucky to have a lovely bathroom but I don’t use it enough to pamper myself. I am going to set it up right now with all my products and candles and have a wonderful leisurely bath. Thank you Vicki, for a truly wonderful post. You always seem to provide exactly what I need.

  • Jacqueline says:

What wonderful recommendations Vicki …… there’s nothing better than a bit of ‘me’ time. There are no creams that can bring back our youth but we can make what we’ve got as good as it can be and that is what I try to do. I’m off to check out all of the products now!!
……Oh, and absolutely stunning images of your home. Much love. XXXX

  • Vicki-
This post has me headed ot the bath for some relaxation. Nothing like a soak in the bath, surrounded by lovely scents.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Happy Monday.
